I have wanted for many years to go on a trip to see the Northern Lights. I am not normally someone who enjoys cold holidays, but this one in January 2014, was incredible. We were lucky enough to see the lights which was an amazing experience. When putting the Joni Mitchell show together in October 2014, I realised it was her song ‘Little Green’ that gave me the desire to see the natural phenomenon – ‘just a little green, like the nights when the Northern Lights perform..’ sounded so magical to me..
I didn’t try to take photos of the lights themselves since I knew I could never do it justice with an iphone, so I spent the time just looking at them and absorbing the memory into my soul. I hope to return to Iceland sometime and would love to play in Reykjavik and Fortun in particular where we saw the lights. It is a moment I will never forget..
Here are a few snaps from the rest of our trip – I particularly enjoyed visiting the Blue Lagoon, the Harpa Centre and getting a new songbook.
