Soul DJ CJ Carlos, who now lives in Miami, came back to London for a reunion party. Both top Soul radio stations Solar FM and Cruise FM were there DJ-ing, and DJ Carlos picked his favourite artists to play live – Junior Giscombe and Bosra Sham. Junior is known for his hit single ‘Mama Used To Say’, released on his 1982 album ‘Ji’, but is now releasing new material, having been a featured artist on Lovetown’s chart topping 2013 album ‘The Lovetown Allstars’ with his single ‘Creeping’. Junior also recently released a new solo album ‘Prisoner Of Hope’ and performed ‘Stand Up And Glow’ at the reunion, which later reached no.9 in the US Dance Charts.
Bosra Sham, also recording on The Lovetown label, are a fresh up-and-coming soul act driven by keys player and songwriter Max Dickson and vocalist Jamie Thain. Their first album ‘Better Days’ having seen global success, particularly in Japan, caught the ear of CJ Carlos who is now a huge fan. The Soul community is now anticipating Bosra’s second release, currently being cooked at Lovetown HQ.
This was a fantastic evening and I was asked to sing in the backing band, The Lovetown Allstars, for both artists, featuring Tim Jones on guitar (and Lovetown producer), Steve Holmes on keys, Chris Wood on bass and Jose Joyette on drums.
Here are a few snaps from the gig..
