On the river bank…
Oh my lord what a beautiful day. The sun is shining stunning summer sunshine and I’m sitting on the riverbank chilling between gigs at Beeses. This is one of my favourite gigs – it is brimming over with character and a wonderful timeless sense of nostalgia. Beeses only opens during he summer months and I first played here last year, early in their season, when I was in town for Songs From The Shed. I immediately fell in love with it – it’s like something out of an Enid Blyton novel, and I expect the famous five to be mooring up to come for cream teas any moment.
Today’s gig…
This afternoons gig was lovely – I played outside on the decking overlooking the river and the boats mooring, for the afternoon. The place was heaving with people, all the tables full and people making themselves comfortable on the grass – I was stepping over people to get to my perch. After the gig I came down to sit on the river bank to absorb some of this gorgeous atmosphere. Reluctantly I have just turned down a very kind offer to give me a lift to my next gig by boat 🙁
Swimming, ducks, taxi boat…
There is currently someone swimming in the river upstream, a gentleman relaxing on the steps on the other side of the river where the taxi boat collects people (run by the bar staff – how cool is that). Ducks are paddling up to me, giant blue dragonflies are buzzing around the Lilly pads on the other side of the river, Fish are jumping and the cotton is high. The taxi boat is pootling back and forth across the river dropping people to their cars and collecting people. You can’t help but be relaxed here.
