The Song For Wickham project moved forwards.
Today we met at one of our local pubs, The Square Cow. Several members of the council, local music promoters, myself and the artist who will be writing the song – Steve Knightly of Show Of Hands. Steve is also a renowned solo artist and well known in the folk world.
Since the last meeting before Chris, we have been discussing what we would like to celebrate about Wickham. Steve shared some ideas about how he could approach the song, and how the memories that had been suggested could be incorporated.
Steve will work on the song next, and have a version ready, hopefully, for him to perform when he’s back at Wickham festival this summer. Once Steve has his solo version solidified, we will develop a choral version and put together a group to start learning it.
I’ll be responsible for developing the choral arrangement and putting a choir together. I’m very much looking forward to that. My choir have been approached to workshop and lead the arrangement, which I know they are looking forward to. One or two of our members are avid Steve Knightly fans so the level of excitement is wonderful.
Steve has some ideas for showcasing the song in a few different ways, before the choir take on a series of performances throughout 2020 themselves.
We had a lovely cup of tea together and a good old chat. I’m looking forward to the next step.
