“Just a little green light the nights when the Northern Lights perform, there’ll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow.”
I heard Joni’s words when I was very young but I didn’t realise it was planting the seed of desire to actually see the Northern Lights perform. Being someone who loves the heat, I did not expect to enjoy Iceland as much as I did, but it was incredible.
Reykjavik translates as Smokey Bay on account of the sea mist hugging the shore. When the mist clears you can see the stark beauty of the landscape.
This view across the bay in Reykjavik is outside The Harpa, a beautiful international conference and arts centre, just before sundown at about 3.30pm. If you ever get caught unawares on the seafront at sundown in artic winter, be careful. It’s cold 🥶 And windy 🌬 🌬 🌬.
The Icelandic people have a saying, that a good person is as ‘friendly as a troll’, so my trolls have a great weekend and stay safe.
