DiElle, of Wickham, was inspired by her parents’ record collection – Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Carole King – has loved music since she was a child. A finalist for this year’s Venus Awards, in the category of Musical Talent, DiElle is honoured to have been recognised by the Hampshire public for her dedication to the pursuit of music as a career.
“Music has been a huge comfort to me during some of the most difficult times in my life,” says DiElle “in particular when I had experienced loss and bereavement. I have seen music reach people on a level that nothing else has, and it has been a privilege to explore this in my working life”
As well as being a performer, and composer, DiElle encourages others to take part in the joy of making music, and delivers a music group for adults with severe learning disabilities.
“Many of these people cannot walk or speak much at all, but when we start making music together, I see their faces light up and give me direct eye contact. They cry out with joy – it’s a humbling and beautiful thing to see.”
Having had reason to use the services of children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent this year, DiElle is also currently working on a charity single for the organisation, who supports families in some of their darkest hours. DiElle says “CLIC Sargent are a fantastic charity, but I hadn’t heard of them until I needed them. We’re working on raising awareness of the issues, and bringing Hampshire people together who have been effected, through the creation of this music.”
One of three finalists for the Venus Awards “Musical Talent Award”, DiElle will perform classic acoustic hits through the ages at Hanger Farm Arts Centre on 10th November, alongside fantastic musicians Chris Wood and John Gleadall. The show celebrates songwriting and vocal harmony in its purest form, harking back to the songs that made DiElle fall in love with music in the first place – Big Yellow Taxi, You’ve Got A Friend, a medley of Bob Dylan music and much more.
